Many English language learners make the following mistakes:

*He told that the film was not very good.*
*Can you say me the way to the market?*

If you confuse the verbs say and tell, this is probably because your language uses the same verb. However, in English we use the following structures:


tell somebody something

say something (to somebody)

So the above sentences in correct English would be:

He said that the film was not very good.
Can you tell me the way to the market?
